Mara Chiorean is a seasoned sustainability professional and an advocate for the role of business in sustainable development. Combining a passion for sustainability with a strong business acumen, her expertise is integrating sustainability in business strategy. She recently relocated to Singapore after travelling around the world for one year.

Prior to her travels, Mara was an Executive Director of CSR Asia managing the Hong Kong office. She became the youngest board member and Executive Director in the history of the company. As part of the senior management team, she formulated CSR Asia’s business strategy to ensure its organisational development. She led advisory work covering areas such as sustainability strategy and reporting, materiality assessment, community investment, supply chain sustainability, top management and employee engagement, partnership building, thought leadership on emerging sustainability issues. She worked with clients across diverse industries and geographies, ranging from multinational and local companies to government and non-governmental organisations, such as Hong Kong Airport Authority, Huawei, Hang Lung Group, Bank of China, Bank of East Asia,  HSBC, FWD, Manulife, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Swire Pacific, PCCW, Wharf, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal, MTR and Oxfam. 

She was also a lecturer at The University of Hong Kong and at HKU SPACE teaching corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility and shared value. Before joining CSR Asia she worked with the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia engaging financial institutions on advancing their sustainable investment practices. Her previous work experience in the private sector covers tourism, market research and telecommunications.

Mara has a master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Management at Bocconi University in Italy, and has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Romania. She is a graduate of the Oxford Scenarios Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
