Benjamin McCarron is a leading expert in responsible investment. A former fund manager, he has 15 years’ experience in mainstream finance and sustainability. In 2013, he set up Singapore-based Asia Research and Engagement Pte. Ltd. (ARE) to help investors, banks, companies, and civil society organisations understand and communicate the financial relevance of sustainability and governance. He is also a specialist consultant for the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA).

Before moving to Asia in 2011, Benjamin was an analyst for The Cooperative Asset Management (now Royal London Asset Management) in the UK. He led the integration of environmental and social analysis into investment and engagement processes. He was also the lead author of two “Good Companies Guides” published in The Observer. Earlier, Ben was a fund manager at Framlington, where he managed £100m of small-cap UK pension money and significantly outperformed the benchmark. He also co-managed a global technology fund covering IT and healthcare research at Gerrard, now part of Barclays Wealth.

He is a regular speaker on sustainability and responsible investment in Asia and has been quoted or interviewed for a number of major international and Asian publications including the Financial Times, CNN, the Independent, the Observer, the Business Times, Investor Relations Magazine, Eco-Business, The Edge, and Today.

Benjamin passed his investment management exams in the UK before the millennium. He studied Mathematics and Philosophy at Oxford.
