Thailand’s Bangchak Corporation clinches Asia’s top sustainability reporting awards

China Resources Power wins multiple awards

Singapore: The Bangchak Corporation, Thailand’s leading energy company, has won Asia’s Sustainability Report of the Year award at the just concluded 2017 Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA). The company also won Asia’s Best Stakeholder Reporting and Asia’s Best Community Reportingawards, and was declared a joint-winner in Asia’s Best Materiality Reporting category.

China Resources Power, an energy conglomerate in Mainland China and Hong Kong, emerged as the second biggest winner as it cornered three awards including Asia’s Most Transparent Report, Asia’s Best Environmental Reporting (joint winner), and Asia’s Best Sustainability Report – Standalone (Highly Commended).

Top winners at the 2017 ASRA included India’s Tata Steel (Asia’s Best Integrated Report), Vietnam’s Baoviet (Asia’s Best Sustainability Report – Standalone), Olam International (Asia’s Best Sustainability Report within Annual Report), and Taiwan’s Hair O’Right (Asia’s Best Sustainability Report – SME). Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group and Hong Kong’s Kerry Properties shared Asia’s Best First Time Sustainability Report as joint winners. Taiwan’s Sinyi Realty scored adouble by grabbing Asia’s Best Online Sustainability Report, and Asia’s Best Workplace Reporting awards.

Winners of the 2017 Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards were announced and honoured in an exclusive awards ceremony-cum-gala-dinner event in Singapore on 6 February 2018.The event, hosted by the British High Commissioner in Singapore H.E. Mr Scott Wightman at the picturesque Eden Hall, was attended by senior business leaders and dignitaries from non-profit organisations, embassies, trade associations, advocacy organisations and academia.

The winners received a specially designed plaque framed with recycled wood. The winner of the top honours, Asia’s Sustainability Report of the Year, won an exclusive golden plaque. All finalists received a merit certificate printed on certified paper sourced from sustainable forests. Also, the winners and the finalists will be eligible to use the exclusive Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards logo as a mark of excellence in sustainability reporting.

ASRA, a non-profit initiative, is organised by Singapore-based sustainability advisory firm CSRWorks International to recognise excellence in reporting.

Following a global trend, several stock exchanges in the region now require listed companies to produce an annual sustainability report, mainly to meet investors’ demand for non-financial disclosure. ASRA winners are setting a new benchmark in sustainability reporting excellence which in turn will inspire more companies to raise the bar.

“Companies’ win at ASRA reflects their leadership in managing long-term social, environmental and economic impacts, risks and opportunities for competitive advantage,” said Rajesh Chhabara, managing director at CSRWorks International.
